One of a Kind Basket
I think I have two very different sides to my personality. One is the practical side and the other is the dreamy, "what if" side. These two sides are clearly illustrated in my basket making. The trick is maintaining a balance.
On one side I have what I call my bread and butter baskets-called this because they literally buy me my bread and butter. They serve a very practical purpose and follow the "form follows function" theory.
My "what if" baskets come from looking at something and wondering if it could be used in creating a basket. Lately, I've been drawn to Lake Superior and to using as materials the gifts of the Lake-rocks and driftwood.
These two sides also show up in my knitting. The practical-knitting hats, sweaters and other useful things. But I also like experimenting with color shapes, using beads and whatever.
In the northernmost part of Minnesota where winter goes on and on, I begin to feel color starved. So I started knitting brightly colored flowers. This year I've been working on Easter eggs and jelly beans. My son, Trevor, who knits practical things, rolls his eyes and I know he's thinking why... He's young yet. He'll understand someday.
